Sound Quality

The FiiO AM3D offers a combination of 3.5mm Single-ended output and 4.4mm Balanced output. Referencing to the product specifications provided by FiiO, the Balanced output has an output power of 550mW (32Ω/THD+N<1%) with a noise floor rated at <5µV while the Single-ended output has an output power of 150 mW (32Ω/THD+N<1%) with a noise floor rated at <4µV. These figures highlight the strengths of the THX AAA-78 processor chip in terms of high power output and low noise floor as well as FiiO’s maturity as an audio device manufacturer.

FiiO AM3C and AM3D Amplifier Module

When using the AM3D with X7 Mark II and Q5, first impressions were how clean the output was, particularly on the Q5 which adds on to its neutral and balanced sound signature with the extreme cleanliness of the AM3D translating to a darker background.

After two weeks of listening to the AM3D, one can appreciate the neutrality that it portrays. The amplifier module exhibits little to no colouration, a harmonious coherence across from the frequencies from the low-end to the high-end as well as a soundstage that is wider than average and well-defined in sound imaging.

In general, the sound quality of AM3D brings its companion devices to a new level, a positive one. One that brings great value at USD 179.99 and provides a new degree of playability particularly for the upcoming Q5s.
